11 months and 19 days since
our Reunion.

Welcome to the ROBERT E. LEE CLASS OF 1961 website.  If you had told me  50 years ago that we'd be able to communicate  in such a manner, I would have just "scratched my head" in wonder.  Thanks for the positive feedback thus far.  If you haven't added your profile to the Classmates portion, please do so . We still have "missing classmates". The list has their last known whereabouts, if available. We still hope to locate these folks, so please help!

THANK YOU!!  THANK YOU!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!  for all the wonderful emails and phone calls since our 50th reunion Memorial Day weekend.  The Hospitality Suite was a  cozy place all day Friday and Saturday and into the night to gather and look over all the Lee memorabilia, hug, laugh, cry and reminesce about the 'good old days' in the hallowed halls of our alma mater.

Friday night our Ed Sullivan Show was well-received.  Thank you to our host, Ed Sullivan (Mark Jackson).  Chuck Barry's "Little Queenie" (Ricky and Anne Cox),The Chordettes "Mr. Sandman" (Mary Jo BROWNING Himes, Barbara OVERTON Wood and Patty DORMAN TenEyck), "I Got You Babe" Sonny (Patsy BARTON Inglis) and Cher (Philip Inglis), Yes, that is correct - Philip  was Cher, Patsy was Sonny. The Queen of Country "She's Got You" Patsy Cline (Jana CRAIG Goodwin), "Tiptoe Through the Tulips" Tiny Tim (Patty DORMAN TenEyck and Mark Jackson), Nursing Home Michael Jackson's performing "Billie Jean" (Ricky and Anne Cox and John Daniels).  Prior to the show a very special  surprise appearance by Elvis (Paul Turner, Carole WEST Turner's hubby) entertained us, signed autographs and offered photo ops.  THANKS PAUL, you were great and ELVIS would have been proud!  And ALWAYS there to provide assistance with the music portion of the Ed Sullivan Show  was Barry Roma (Mary Jane ARNOLD's hubby).  Barry, we appreciate ALL you have done  for our Class Reunions and gatherings over the years  and for  bringing us the music of our generation.
THANK YOU  RIcky for the props and set production and installation for the Friday night show.

The folks who made the Historic Tour Saturday morning had a good time seeing how Jacksonville downtown has changed and visiting  some of the old neighborhoods including  Lee and Gorrie.

Saturday afternoon, Doug Milne and his son William set up SKYPE in the lobby of the hotel and many of our classmates were able to talk with Lois Ellen Graessle  and John Stoddard, both recovering from recent surgeries that prevented them from attending.  They are healing and send their hellos to everyone and thank yous  for keeping them in your prayers. THANK YOU  Doug  and William for connecting us to Lois Ellen and John. Your efforts in doing so were certainly appreciated!

Our Saturday night banquet was the highlight of our weekend.   During the evening,  Harriette MITCHELL Huggins' power point presentation  took us on a trip down memory lane. You can view that now in the photo album portion of the website.
Class President, Doug Myers gave a warm and heartfelt welcome with remembrances of the way it was when we were students at Lee.
Doug Milne presented beautiful architectual pictures of the way Lee looked in 1943 to Jayne Haynes, Ricky Cox, John Daniels and myself from the Class of 1961 for hosting the reunion.
John Daniels presented Dr. Denise Hall, Lee Principal, with a huge plaque that he designed,  fashioned  and hand-carved of our General  Robert E. Lee (words cannot describe how fantastic it is - look for the picture soon in our photo album.)  Many hours went into this project - a labor of love.  Dr. Hall was very proud to receive it as a gift  from the Class of 1961, and assures us it will have a place of honor in the front hall of the school. She gave an update on the reconstruction progress and further plans for Lee High School.
Rev. Clay Knowles offered words of encouragment and the invocation prior to dinner.
After dinner, music and dancing with DJ Barry Roma (hubby of Mary Jane ARNOLD Roma) completed the evening.

Jayne Haynes created the class directory and made the wonderful name tags for the reunion.  She has also been the creator of the photo album portion of our website.  Watch for updates often.    If you have pictures you'd like included, please email your pictures to her at jaynebug@frontier.com.  Jayne's valuable input and MANY hours she invested ensuring our 50th would be all that it should be is GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!!  She is the 'brains' behind so much of what gets done, friends, and we missed seeing her this year!
